Commercial Driver Training
Pegasus Corporation

Admissions Process

Minimum Age Requirements:
You must be at least 18 years of age to obtain your CDL.  However, CDL drivers under the age of 21 are prohibited from operating Commercial Motor Vehicles operating in INTERSTATE Commerce.  Drivers under 21 are allowed to operate CMVs in INTRASTATE commerce only.  Please contact us for more information or clarification.

1. MUST HAVE A CURRENT/VALID WASHINGTON STATE DRIVERS LICENSE AND SOCIAL SECURITY CARD
Pegasus Corporation does NOT require your SS card to enroll you in the CDL program.  Your Social Security card must be presented to DOL in order to obtain your CDIP (Commercial Driver Instruction Permit).  If you have misplaced your card, you must re-apply for your SS card at the Social Security office.  This office will issue you a letter which will allow you to obtain your CDIP.

2. Secure Funding:
Please see the Funding section for more information

3. Obtain your current MVR ($13.00 payable to DOL)
Go to your local DOL office and obtain a copy of your current MVR (Drivers Abstract).  Most companies are looking for clean driving records.  You can obtain your CDL with a poor driving record, but may have difficulty in finding employment.  Reputable employers are looking for driving records with no more than 2 moving violations within the last two years, no DUI within the last 5 years.  Please contact us if you have any questions.

4. Contact Pegasus Corporation
If you will be receiving funds from Worksource, DVR, or L&I, please have your counselor or account representative contact us to reserve your place in our next class.  If you will be paying for the program (self pay), please contact us to complete the application and pay $100.00 deposit to hold your spot in the class.  We will also want to review your driving record at this time.

5. Drug Screen  ($50.00, payable to Whatcom Occupational Health)
You must take a NIDA drug test at WHATCOM OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH, 3015 Squalicum Pkwy # 220 Bellingham, WA 98225, (360) 734-8771.  Results will be submitted to Pegasus Corporation.  Drug tests must be administered no earlier than 20 days prior to the start of your class.  Please be advised that under FMCSR (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations), Part 382, you will also be placed on the random drug testing program for Pegasus Corporation.

6. DOT Physical ($80.00 to $180.00, estimated, depending on service provider)
Schedule your DOT physical.  If you have current health insurance, it may be free.  Most health insurance providers will allow 1 wellness physical per year at no cost.  Contact your insurance provider and your doctor as soon as possible.  The only requirement is that the physical be performed on DOT required forms http://www.dol.wa.gov/forms/520061.pdf.
You can also obtain your DOT physical at Whatcom Occupational Health, Walk In Clinics, or your private doctor.  Check your local phone book and call for pricing.

HAZ MAT REGULATIONS
You must enroll in the Pegasus CDL, HAZMAT training program in order to add this endorsement to your CDL.  Prior to obtaining your HAZ MAT endorsement, you must pass a TSA (Transportation Safety Administration) background investigation.  Please visit the TSA website to see if you qualify for this endorsement.
There is an additional cost associated with this investigation of approximately $94.00.
